[K-POP news with Soompi] : Girls’ Generation Sets a New Record on Oricon Chart with “Love&Peace” Album

Girls’ Generation released its third Japanese studio length album “Love&Peace” on December 11, which scored the top spot on Oricon Daily Album Chart on the same day. The group sold a total of 129,255 units for the first week and clinched the top spot on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart.

This marks the second time Girls’ Generation earned the top spot on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart, earning them the record of being the first Korean girl group to make this remarkable achievement. They previously sold the most units in one week through first Japanese studio length album “Girls’ Generation” in June 2011.

Sexy diva Son Dam Bi will be making her long-awaited comeback with the release of her third digital single, “Red Candle” on December 23! 

The singer will be trying out a different genre of music for “Red Candle,” which has been revealed to carry a bossa nova rhythm and likely to enrapture listeners with Son Dam Bi’s sultry vocals to go with it. “Bossa nova” is actually a style of music that incorporates elements of samba and jazz.The lyrics are about falling in love and being consumed by the elation and anxiety of losing control when you give your heart to someone.

[K-POP news with Soompi] : G-Dragon and SHINee Rank in Top Ten Among “World Album Artists” for Billboard’s 2013 Year-End Charts

G-Dragon and SHINee shows how their music passes cultural boundaries with their ninth and tenth place ranking, respectively, on Billboard’s 2013 Year-End Charts  in the category of world album artists.

In regards to the Billboard rankings, YG Entertainment commented, “It is the first time Korean artists has ranked on Billboard’s annual charts,” defining the accomplishment of their artist.

Back in September, G-Dragon released his solo album, “Coup d’Etat,” presenting to the world a variety of genres from soft ballad to hip hop. The release of the album resulted in complete dominance of the K-Pop charts, as well as great popularity overseas. Among other awards throughout the year, G-Dragon won the Best Male Artist award at the 2013 MAMA.

This project is about a story regarding changes and power of ‘music,’ what is needed for children in the reality of education in Korea that is currently in crisis, and also ‘what is ultimately really needed for us to live.’ Two musicians are visiting around the orchestra at school seeking for an answer as to how our children are grown and changed by music, and how music serves for them in their lives.
